Kathy Friel, PsyD is the Executive Director and Founder of Dragonfly Retreats. Kathy is a veteran and has a proud family history of military service dating back to the Civil War. In her graduate school application essay she discussed that not working with veterans' mental health would be unconscionable.
Kathy started her educational career at Regis University in 2005 and graduated with a BS in Psychology with a minor in Theology in 2008. She went on to earn a MA in Clinical Psychology in 2010 and in 2013 was awarded a Doctorate of Psychology degree from the University of the Rockies. During her academic career Kathy took outside courses in trauma treatment. She is a second generation trained Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist and became certified in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Energy Psychology and Tapping. She is also trained in SMART Recovery and has designed and taught Pain Management classes. She is well versed in cognitive behavioral (CBT) and rational emotive behavior (REBT) and believes in the power of healthy eating for maximum brain health.
Through her adult life Kathy has been involved in three non-profit service organizations and has volunteered hundreds of hours a year in her community. She has held leadership positions in these clubs and was the event coordinator for ten years of a large city sponsored event that has raised tens of thousands of dollars for military charities.
Kathy has been an entrepreneur for more than 20 years designing and running two successful businesses. She is a strong believer that knowledge is power and what we don’t know and don’t understand is the scariest part of life. Kathy is a natural educator and has been a college professor for more than five years. The past might be scary but Kathy and her team are excited about the opportunity to educate you so that you can have a successful happy future.
